Dental Health Fair
In celebration of Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, I will be hosting an Asian Dental Health Fair Saturday May 12th from 10:00am-2:00pm at Lanier High School's cafeteria.
The goal of this fair is to focus on preventive oral health care in order to decrease dental caries and disease in the Asian population. The fair will have booths representing 10-15 different general dentist's offices, specialists, and city clinics from all over the Austin area. Attendees can receive a free dental screening and be guided to a dentist/specialist that can take care of their dental needs. We also want the attendees to find a dentist or a dental clinic they feel comfortable going to on a regular basis whether it be a dentist of their same ethnicity, in their neighborhood, or a dentist that accepts their insurance. Insure-A-Kid will also have a booth there to help parents apply for insurance for their children.
The fair will be family focused as we will have a kids activity area with dental assistants and hygienists that will teach oral hygiene instructions, brushing, flossing, nutrition education, etc. There will be face paintings and games as well.
There will be healthy snacks provided to all the attendees. Upon entrance into the fair, attendees will sign in and be offered a choice to enter in a drawing for a free electric toothbrush or whitening strips. There will also be giveaways for kids spinbrushes. To enter in the drawing, the attendees will fill out a brief survey that can be used to evaluate information about the oral health needs in the Asian population.
There will be local Asian dance groups for entertainment (Agni Bollywood Dance Studio and The Love of China Dance School) and Dr. Philip Huang, the Medical Director from Health and Human Services for City of Austin, will speak on the topic of Tobacco Cessation in the Asian Community.
Marketing is currently taking place in local South Asian newspapers, Austin 360, schools, local Asian restaurants, grocery stores, and Asian event websites. Attached is our official flier. We are expecting around 100-200 attendees.
