Maintaining a focus on expanding equity and opportunity for Austin/Travis County has always been at the heart of the work undertaken by CAN since its inception in 1992. In recent years, CAN has placed a specific emphasis on identifying resources, strategies and opportunities for addressing disparities in a variety of outcome indicators, specifically relating to race/ethnicity. In 2014 and 2015, CAN staff and the UT Office of Diversity and Inclusion worked with the Cultural Competence, Diversity & Inclusion (CCDI) Work Group to develop a CCDI Toolkit. In 2016, a race equity section was added to the CAN Dashboard. In 2017, CAN created an Equity Blog to promote and support local efforts to address race equity and the CAN Board committed to a year-long focus on addressing institutional racism.
