Homeless Resource Fair

The Homeless Resource Fair, formerly known as the Stand Down, is a one-day event that links homeless individuals and families with community resources.  This year’s event will be held on Saturday November 13, 2010 and it will provide attendees with medical services, referrals to social service agencies, legal assistance, haircuts, food, and much more. The Homeless Resource Fair is important in connecting hundreds of homeless individuals with a community that can restore their hope. With your help, we know the 2010 Homeless Resource Fair will be successful in lending a hand to our homeless neighbors.

Do You Want to Get Involved in Making a Difference in the Homeless Community?

MAKE AN IN-KIND OR MONETARY DONATION

Become an Event Sponsor: Will you consider becoming a sponsor of our event? Monetary donations are tax deductible and will be used to secure backpacks, socks, and hygiene items that we will distribute to attendees on the day of the event. Below are the sponsorship levels.

  • PLATINUM SPONSOR – $1,000 Donation
    Your donation could help us provide over 250 backpacks for homeless individuals in need!
  • GOLD SPONSOR – $750 Donation
    Your donation could help us provide 750 1-day Bus Passes for homeless individuals in need!
  • SILVER SPONSOR – $500 Donation
    Your donation could help us provide over 250 hygiene kits (which include nail clippers, deodorant, washcloths, soap, combs, etc.) for homeless individuals in need!
  • HELPING HAND SPONSOR – $100 Donation
    Your donation could help us provide 60+ dental kits for homeless individuals in need!
  • FRIEND OF THE EVENT – _$________  (Choose your own amount)
    Your donation will no doubt help us reach our goal of making this year’s HRF the best one yet!

HOST A DONATION DRIVE

If you and/or your organization can host a donation drive and/or help us to spread the word, we would be grateful.

The Homeless Resource Fair is in need of the following items to distribute or use at the event.

Donations List

  • 1,000 Bags (backpacks, duffel bags, suitcases, etc.)
  • 750 one-day Capital Metro bus passes
  • Food (granola bars, fruit, etc.)
  • Beverages (bottled water and juice)
  • 1,000 pairs of new socks
  • New underwear
  • Hygiene and first aid items (nail clippers, q-tips, band aids, alcohol swabs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, sunscreen, antibiotic ointment, antifungal foot cream, etc.)
  • Pet supplies (dog food, leashes, etc.)
  • Prescription and reading glasses

PROVIDE INFORMATION OR SERVICES TO ATTENDEES

Does your agency provide services to homeless individuals and families? If so, please consider having a booth at the Homeless Resource Fair.  Attendees can benefit from many services such as assistance with medical care, employment, legal aid, birth certificates, veterans’ benefits, educational services, housing procurement, etc.  Community organizations are welcome and encouraged to participate as service providers.  Please complete the registration form and mail it to Goodwill Job Source Program, Attn. We want to ensure the homeless community knows about the resource fair.  Please feel free to distribute the flier where appropriate.

Participants can pre-register at the following sites:

  • Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (500 East 7th  St) from November 1st to November 12th.  Please check with the front desk for specific times.
  • Feed My People Breakfast at United Methodist Family Life Center (1300 Lavaca), November 9th and 11th, 5:00 am to 7:00 am

WANT TO HELP OUT ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT?

Sign up to volunteer at the 2010 Homeless Resource Fair.  Here’s your chance to be a part of this annual resource fair that helps connect individuals to much needed services and goods.    In 2009, we had over 150 community members generously contribute their time, energy and expertise to make the event a success. Please consider volunteering in the following areas:

  • Registration Area/ Sign-In
  • Health Care Providers (Doctors, Dentists, Alternative Health Practitioners, Massage Therapists, Podiatrists, Optometrists, Physical Therapists, etc.)
  • Hair Stylists
  • Donation Distribution
  • Notary
  • Photographer
  • Runners
  • Sanitation/ Custodial
  • Set-up
  • Shower facilitation
  • Spanish Translator
  • Help Desk
  • Team Leader

We have volunteer opportunities on both Friday November 12th and Saturday November 13th. Please sign up to volunteer at the Homeless Resource Fair through Volunteer Spot.
